1. Introduction
Western ROAMs (Remote Office Access Management System) is provided by ITS for secure remote access to network drives and to your office computer. This is a Virtual Private Network (VPN). You will not be able to use the Remote Desktop Connection to access your office computer from off-campus unless you access it via Western ROAMs.
ITS has their own help provided from remote.uwo.ca.
2. Getting Access to ROAMs
Access to Western ROAMs has already been requested for most faculty and staff by Social Science so try to Login to remote.uwo.ca before requesting access. If you do not have access, complete the Corporate Access form available from the ROAMs page. Under Central Server Access check Western ROAMs (network drive, RDC).
3. Login to ROAMS
Go to Western ROAMs at remote.uwo.ca and choose Click here to login. You should login using your Western username and password (e-mail). The first time you login, you will be prompted to install some software to your computer. Once you login successfully to ROAMs, click on the Start button beside Network Connect. Once again, if this is the first time, you will be prompted to download some software.
You will see a lock icon
appear in your system tray (bottom right corner) which means that you have successfully logged
in. Keep this web page open. A lock window will pop up for
Mac users.
Note: If you continue to be prompted to install the software and the lock icon never appears, then your system may require a Java Update.
Tip: You can create a bookmark or favorite for the ROAMs login page which is the page you are directed to after clicking Click here to login.
4. Remote Access to your Office Computer
Once ROAMs is running, you can use Remote Access to your Office computer as you would normally. See ssnds.uwo.ca/helpnotes/remoteaccessoffice.asp. Remember to sign out of Western ROAMs when you have disconnected or logged out of your Remote Desktop session.
