The perimeter doors in the Social Science Centre are all on the Chubb Card Access system. Some doors are exit only doors. You can only open the perimeter entrance doors after hours by using your Western One card. Simply hold your card in front of the proximity card reader until the light changes to green. The locking mechanism will release and then you can pull or push the door to open.
Social Science members should be in the card access database by default. If your card is an HID iCLASS card and you are unable to gain access to the building, please either email firstname.lastname@example.org or call the SSTS main office at 519 661-2152 (x. 82152). If you require immediate assistance for after hours building access trouble, please contact the Campus Police at 519 661-3300 (x. 83300).
The SSC perimeter doors on the Chubb Card Access system lock and unlock automatically. The regular open hours are:
Monday – Friday: 6:00 a.m. to Midnight
Weekends: 6:50 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Holidays: Closed. Card Access Only. (Open Labour Day Monday)
Known Issue: If you have one of the new MiFare cards you may experience difficulty with the card readers. The MiFare cards are identified on the back of the card in the bottom left corner with HID iCLASS MIFARE. In most cases, holding the card to the reader for 3 to 4 seconds will allow the card to be read.
There are many internal doors in the Social Science Centre that are also on the Chubb Card Access system. As above, you need to use your Western One card to access these rooms. Access to these rooms is controlled by the individual departments. If you have difficulty getting access to one of these rooms, please check with the department first before emailing email@example.com or calling the SSTS main office at 519 661-2152 (x. 82152). If you require immediate assistance for after hours access trouble, please contact the Campus Police at 519 661-3300 (x. 83300).
There is a separate Chubb Card Access system in Psychology on the 8th floor and in the Advanced Facility for Avian Research (AFAR) building which is also associated with Psychology. Both of these are maintained by staff in Psychology. Card access in any buildings external to the Social Science Centre, such as Lawson Hall, are maintained by the local department in consultation with the Campus Police. The card access for the StatsCan Research Data Centre (RDC) in SSC 1030 is maintained by the staff in the RDC.
Note: Social Science members should ensure that their Western One photo ID card has HID iCLASS on the back bottom left corner. If your card is not the right type, if it is not working and visibly damaged, or if your card is lost, please go to Student Central, WSS 1120 in the Western Student Services building.
